The Exchange continues!
this year's Peace Corps Week Call has been so successful. and it just keeps going. this past month, we took copies made from the Mar Vista Middle School after school program's website. they showed pictures of the kids in America talking on the phone. and the answers to the questions that Saramakan students had sent..."do you take baths in the river?" "no, i take them in the shower. but sometimes when we go camping, we do wash in the cold river."
the American students were so respectful and open. and i think we're all learning how much we are the same even in the middle of our differences.
the kids from Mar Vista asked the Tutu kids more questions too..."what's your favorite color?" and just like in America, the Saramakan kids mentioned every color in the rainbow. "if you could go anywhere in the world to visit, where would you go?" lots said America or Holland; one student wants to go to Brasil and one would be happy just for a trip into the capital city, Paramaribo!
this month we are taking back a bunch of pretty maps and stickers and bookmarks from peace Corps Washington. but the highlight is an envelope that came all the way from Mar Vista Middle full of letters to the Saramakan students!
we would like to say thank you to all the students--on both continents--that participated in the World Wise Schools program with us this year. you have brightened our days and brought smiles to our faces. we are so proud of all of your work, all of your questions. we think you would make great Peace Corps Volunteers!
