a little update
hello all.
it's been a while since we've written anything new. as our time here in Suriname winds down, it seems like we're getting more and more busy. and it seems like we've done alot of traveling out of our village, out of our normal routine. all this to say i'm feeling a bit scattered. a few updates:
we spent a few weeks in the village doing all our normal stuff--English lessons and preschool and reading and going out in our boat.
then we spent 2 weeks out on the coast at a turtle research station called Matapika. we saw lots of leatherbacks and green turtles. we also finished reading the Bible together. quite a ride!
and now Andy's parents are here in the city. already we've gone to Fort Zeelandia and the Central Market. we've sampled lots of Suriname's cuisine--Chinese and Javanese and Indian and Creole. we rode the truck and then the boat out to our site. Don and Carolyn met the captains and got caught in heavy tropical rains and slept in a hammock and even learned a little Saramakan. now we are back in the city for more good food and cold Parbo beers.
we will be leaving the country on 14 July 2005. just in time for me to celebrate my birthday in America! that means just a little over 6 more weeks in the village. then we'll be heading to Southern California. then maybe to Mexico.
we heard today that all of Sur 11 have been confirmed...that means that all over the U.S. there are people looking up Suriname and trying to pack and worrying about all sorts of tropical diseases! just know that there are alot of us here already, thinking about you and wishing you well. we'll see you at the beginning of July.
