Weekend in Barcelona

Sorry, it seems I've gotten way behind...

January 9th--12th, Jared and I flew to sunny, warm Barcelona. The city is filled with intersting architecture and wonderful parks. The second day we just wandered through the streets stopping at different cafes to have a drink and sit in the sun. We went up the hill where most of the Olympic sites are and had a beer at an outdoor cafe that overlooked the city and watched the stray cats run around and beg for food. From that lookout point, we could see the hill on the opposite side of the city where we had stood with a view the day before. The city is just so lovely with hills on both sides and the sea just in front of it.

The first day we went to La Sagrada Familia, a church designed by Gaudi in 1882 that is still under construction. It's maximum capacity is suppose to be 55,000 people. Words can't describe and our pictures don't do justice, but I've been there twice and I'd go again, if only to see that building.

Gaudi also designed Parc Guell. Jared included pictures, but I'm not sure whether or not they convey the fairytale atmosphere of the place. Not to mention, the warmth, sunshine, and happy, peaceful feeling.

We met a nice girl from Sweden, Sabine, in our hostal and she spent both days wandering around the city with us. Many of you may know that Jared and I are a little bit strange when we're together, but we didn't scare her off and it was wonderful to have some company.

So, besides the druggy who wanted to steal Jared's bag, but couldn't, so he stole the top of his ice cream instead...it was a wonderful trip. We arrived back in England to pouring, windy rain, and thought we must be crazy to leave Barcelona for that!
